The plant will produce three different types of modules including chassis (suspension and sub-frame), driver's seat (dashboard, air-conditioner, and airbag), front (bumper and headlamps). The modules produced here will be shipped to the Hyundai Motor plant just 1.5 kilometers away to assemble the i10 and i20 models.
Cho Won-jang, Hyundai Mobis vice president in charge of module business, said, "Turkey is an important emerging market in which the world's leading car makers such as Toyota, Ford, and Renault are vying to take a larger share of the market. The new module plant will help Hyundai Motor gain competitive edge against rivals to expand presence in the European market."
With the completion of the Izmit plant, Hyundai Mobis has now 12 module manufacturing sites across the world. Beginning a Chinese plant in 2002, the company has established module plants in locations where Hyundai Motor has assembly plants, including the United States (Alabama and Georgia), Slovakia, the Czech Republic, India, and Brazil.
