SEOUL, KOREA- Kumho Petrochemical has just completed the construction of a coal transportation facility in Yeosu, South Jeolla Province, and will enter the business of handling bituminous coal in earnest. The company said on September 13 that its newly established affiliate Kumho T&L held a completion ceremony on the same day at Yeocheon Coal Pier.

It took six years for Kumho Petrochemical to complete the project after the Yeosu Regional Maritime Affairs and Port Office commissioned the order in September 2007. With a total storage capacity of 240,000 tons a day in three 80,000-ton silos, the facility is expected to generate 50 billion won of annual sales from next year through transactions with such customer companies as Korea South East Power, Korea East-West Power, as well as Kumho Petrochemical.

The dimension of each silo is 77 meters in height and 55 meters in diameter, the largest among existing bituminous coal storage facilities in Korea. Kumho T&L will expand the facility to 7 million tons by building five more such silos.
