SEOUL, KOREA- The smartphone industry is releasing a string of brand-new models targeting the Chuseok holidays. Unlike the retail and food industries which enjoy hikes in demand before Chuseok, the smartphone market usually sees a rise in demand after Chuseok.
The sales of smartphones, in general, increase by about 20 percent after Chuseok since there are many young consumers who are willing to buy new models with bonuses or pocket money that they received from relatives.
Samsung Electronics plans to kick-start the sales of the Galaxy Note 3 starting from September 25 right after the Chuseok holiday ends. The Galaxy Note 3 features a 5.7-inch large-screen and a full HD Super AMOLED display. Despite being mounted with a 3200-mAh large-capacity battery, it has a thickness of 8.3 mm and a weight of 168 grams, thinner and lighter than its previous version.
LG Electronics also plans to release the LG Vu III at the end of this month. To compete with the Galaxy Note 3, LG Electronics plans to lower the price of the model to around 800,000 won, cheaper than its previous version Optimus Vu II which was sold at a price of 966,900 won.
