SEOUL, KOREA- GS Energy, a GS Group company, said on September 23 that it decided against working with Brazil's state-run oil company Petroleo Brasileiro SA. Earlier in June this year, the two companies had signed a non-binding agreement to explore the possibility of building a low-sulfur diesel refinery jointly in Brazil's Ceara State.

GS Energy notified this intention to Petrobras, which is now in talks with Chinese energy companies for the deal. The two companies were in agreement to build a refinery with a daily capacity of 300,000 barrels.

It was heralded by GS Energy as a new growth opportunity as it faces a highly saturated domestic market. Under the terms of the accord, they were going to produce diesel, aviation fuel, and naphtha after completing the construction project by the end of 2017.
