SEOUL, KOREA- Hyundai Motor’s premium sedan Equus is enjoying a rising popularity in the U.S. market with its market share there reaching close to a 10-percent level. The Equus was sold 435 units in the U.S. in August 2013, the largest monthly sales in 33 months after launching into the U.S. market in December 2010, the first among Korean-made large sedans.

The previous monthly sales record was 362 units set in July 2012. This was the first time for the Equus monthly sales volume to pass the 400-unit mark. Backed by strong sales growth, the Equus’ share in the U.S. premium car segment shot up to 9.7 percent from the 6-7 percent range.

In August 2013, the BMW 7 series came on top with a market share of 20.6 percent, followed by the Lexus LS with 20 percent, the Audi A8 with 12 percent, the Jaguar XJ with 11.1 percent, the Porsche Panamera with 10.1 percent, and the Benz S class with 10.0 percent.
