SEOUL, KOREA- SKC Inc. has completed the construction of a plant to produce PET (polyethylene terephthalate) film for use with plastic beverage and water bottles in China's Jiangsu Province. The SK Group company said on October 29 that it held a completion ceremony for the PET film production facility at the Nantong Economic & Technological Development Area within the province.
Jointly with Toyobo Corp. and Toyo Aluminium of Japan, the company had begun the construction of the plant capable of producing 33,000 tons of PET film since August 2011. With the kickoff of the Nontong plant, SKC has a total of 240,000-ton PET film production capacity in 21 production lines in locations such as Suwon, Jincheon, and Covington (Georgia, U.S.).
The shares in the Nantong plant are held by SK China (33%), Toyobo (15%), and Toyo Aluminum (8%), as well as SKC (44%). SKC plans to expand the global PET film capacity to 300,000 tons by 2015 from current 240,000 tons and take the world's No. 1 position in the high-functional PET film market.
