SEOUL, KOREA- Samsung Electronics topped the owner satisfaction ratings on tablets by J.D. Power and Associates. Although the company had gained the No. 1 position in mobile phones, this is the first time in the tablet category. According to J.D. Power, the global marketing information services firm, on October 31, its customer satisfaction survey conducted on the owners who purchased their devices between the months of March and August put Samsung's tablets on top beating Apple and Amazon.

The market research firm took into account five key factors including performance, ease of use, styling/design, features, and price with their weight at 26, 22, 19, 17, and 16 percent respectively. Based on a 1,000-point scale, Samsung was ranked No. 1 at 835 points, while Apple's models earned 833, and 826 for Amazon. Apple's iPad was rated the highest in every category except cost.

Samsung had been lagged behind Apple in the tablet market while leading the smartphone market in the world. According to recent data by Strategy Analytics, however, Apple's tablet share fell below the 30-percent level for the first time in the second quarter of the year while Samsung increased its share to 16.9 percent, narrowing the difference with Apple. Strategy Analytics estimated that Samsung has sold 8.4 million tablets in the second quarter. From this, it is possible for the company to have sold more than 10 million tablets in the third quarter.
