SEOUL, KOREA - Just like mobile phone chargers, the chargers for laptop computers will likely to be standardized from the second half of next year at the earliest.
In other words, a standardized charger will be available for all kinds of laptops,no matter whether they are produced by Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics or Sambo Computer.
The Korean Agency for Technology and Standards, which is under the umbrella of the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy, announced on December 23 that it enacted a national standard “KS” for laptop battery chargers that can be applied regardless of manufacturer or type of models.
The national standard is based on the consensus made by Korea’s major laptop makers. It standardizes the external diameter of the charger’s contact device at3 millimeters. The manufacturers are now engaged in development of standardized chargers that can be applicable to newly made computer models scheduled to be sold from the second half of next year.
