SEOUL, KOREA - Last year, the share of "socially vulnerable companies" in the public procurement market has grown slightly. According to the Public Procurement Service on February 10 in a report "2013 Procurement Performance Analysis," the share in public procurement goods and services supplied by small businesses, social enterprises, and women-headed companies has increased slightly but in a meaningful amount.
Of the total domestic goods purchasing volume, the share accounted for by small- and medium-sized suppliers rose 1.5 percentage points to 78.1 percent. In terms of supply amount, this is 2.3 trillion won higher than the previous year. As for the share of goods supplied by women-led enterprises, the share increased to 7.6 percent from 7.1 percent in 2012. For social enterprises, the share jumped to 0.15 percent from 0.06 percent in the previous year.
The report also said that the amount of public purchase of goods embodying new technology has also grown by 700 billion won. The volume of service procurement has also increased by 600 billion won.
