President Song Hong-jun of T.Y. Tech meets buyers from Vietnam

Buyers in Sight

Drapes of polymer lined post insulators in T.Y. Tech's booth at Global Electric Power Tech 2009. The booth attracted many foreign buyers including city construction planners, private power and infrastructure board directors, and government representatives. "We represent the Electricity Section of the government of Uganda Construction Projects, and the most remarkable item we saw here at the show was the polymer line post insulator of T.Y. Tech.

We've seen nothing like that before and it definitely made the trip worthwhile," said Dan W. Mayanja who came to the show with the Minister of Uganda. Liubomir Tzvetkov of the Vietnamese City Developing Group added, "We keep coming back to see the polymer insulators in T.Y. Tech. I believe this is already our third visit back to this booth during the day today."

What's the Secret Ingredient

Polymer products of T.Y. Tech

Indeed a small company in Noksan National Industrial Complex, Busan succeeded to impress many with an eco-friendly compact power transmission tower system with polymer deals. All new polymer products in this system reduce electromagnetic waves, raising the efficiency of power transmission, which allows sending up to 150 thousand volts of power.

The company came up with new ways by simply redesigning the structure of power transmission towers. According to the patent, the core differences lies in replacing the holding arms of the towers with highly polymerized insulators.

80% Lighter in Weight, Reduce Electromagnetic Wave

Song Hong-jun, President of T.Y. Tech

Song Hong-jun, Presdident of T.Y. Tech Co., said, "Our Power transmission Tower Arm weighs only 20% of the previous arms, and does not require insulators to hang on the arm.

This reduces the size of the towers and effect of the electromagnetic waves toward people on the ground. Our power lines are set one or two meters higher than the previous power lines."

Indeed T.Y. Tech used an American electric company's program to perform a virtual test of the tower, and the total amount of the electromagnetic waves dropped all the way down to 59 % in comparison to the previous towers. Dr. Song emphasized that the new system would help reduce the lawsuits and complains of the victims of the electromagnetic waves who reside near the towers.

Cost Effective and Economy Reviver

"Our Power Transmission Tower System does not require investing a ton of money to build a whole new tower, yet provides higher voltage than previous towers. This is because our system allows longer distances between high voltage power lines. Using our system will also contribute greatly to strengthening the Korean insulator materials market by suggesting that it no longer relies on imported insulators. The estimated benefit of localization is W10 billion [US$8 million]."

Great Invention, Great Sponsor

The patent was the outcome of cooperation with Korea Electric Power Corporation which had assisted with W470 million (US$376,000). KEPCO expected that the new system would help make towers smaller, lighter, and more eco-friendly. With great support, T.Y. Tech developed polymer line post insulators, anti-pollution polymer bushing for pole transformers, polymer bushing terminals for pole transformers, polymer phase to phase spacers, polymer anti-contamination coupling insulators, polymer insulators for distribution, and polymer insulators for overhead transmission lines. These lists exclude accessories including polymer arm insulators, insulation, and much more.

Towards Green

President Song says his next field of study is to be well prepared for the renewable energy movement. "Seeking answers to questions like how to assist wind power with polymer material components is my new passion these days," said he.
