MILPITAS, CA - Sigma Designs® (NASDAQ: SIGM), a leading provider of intelligent System on Chip (SoC) solutions for Smart TV, Smart home and IP-based set-top boxes, has launched its latest Z-Wave® Serial Interface Module with Antenna, the ZM5304, into volume production.
The ZM5304 is the latest addition to the industry-leading 5th generation Z-Wave platform which sets new standards for ease of use, level of integration, power economy and RF performance. The ZM5304 is the company's most easily integrated solution, delivering the fastest time-to-market yet for Z-Wave products. The ZM5304 allows developers to focus on their high-level applications without being impacted by low-level programming and RF regulatory approvals.
As the smart home market continues to grow (smart home adoption in the U.S. is poised to grow 37 percent between 2013 and 2019, according to ABI Research), the demand for Z-Wave based home control services has been explosive. This growth is driven by security providers such as ADT, Vivint, Alarm.com and Honeywell, as well as major telcos and MSOs, and retail and e-tailer leaders, all of whom use Z-Wave in their products and solutions. Consumers have embraced the smart home category, and are expressing their preference for the broad choices available to them through the many leading brands powered by Z-Wave. Sigma Designs addresses this market need by offering traditional home hardware companies, as well as innovative new start-ups, a range of SoC and firmware solutions enabling them to take advantage of Z-Wave's interoperability, and the 1000+ certified devices of the Z-Wave ecosystem.
The ZM5304 is a fully self-contained, turnkey module that includes a Z-Wave modem and built-in antenna designed for easy integration by hardware device manufacturers. The module comes with full FCC modular approval and is pre-scanned for CE approval, allowing companies to go directly to market without additional FCC testing. The ZM5304 module provides easy to use, high level, time-tested API's, making applications development simple and efficient. As new Serial API features become available, the ZM5304's firmware can be upgraded using USB or UART ports, eliminating the need to replace hardware. The ZM5304 is fully backwards-compatible with previous versions of the serial API, making the upgrading of existing Z-Wave products to the benefits of the 5th generation platform quick and cost-effective.
"With new entries to the market, like Apple's announcement of Home Kit, we are particularly excited to reach this milestone with the ZM5304; simply put, this solution does the heavy lifting for developers," said Raoul Wijgergangs, Vice President of Sigma Designs' Z-Wave Business Line. "With its plug-and-play modem, it provides the fastest and easiest route to production for controller device makers that want to add to add Z-Wave connectivity to TV's, set-top boxes and gateway products. Sigma Designs is dedicated to providing best-in-class Z-Wave solutions to fuel the home- control market. The ZM5304 underpins this commitment by providing developers a one-of-a-kind solution that will make it easier for them to bring Z-Wave powered products to market."
