INDIA, BHOPAL - St.Theresa’s Girls’ School Bhopal is celebrated feast of the Exaltation of the Cross here today at School premises to commemorate the formation of the Holy Cross Congregation in 1886, under the able stewardship of their foundress, Mother Claudine Echernier.
Dr Leo Cornelio, Archbishop of Bhopal says " We celebrate this feast of the Exaltation of the Cross for two reasons to understand the history of the discovery and recovery of the true Cross and to appreciate better the importance of the symbol and reality of Christ’s sacrificial love, namely, the cross in the daily life of every Christian.
He also added that the sisters of the holy cross have been rendering their services especially for the needy and the poor in education, health , social work, irrespective of caste, creed and religion.
Sr. Rosy Joseph, Principal, St. Theresa’s Girls School Bhopal says “St.Theresa’s Girls’ School Bhopal was established by the Sisters of the Cross of Chavanod, an international congregation”.
The Sisters were escorted to the auditorium by the school band, where they all were accorded a floral welcome. A tribute was paid to those Sisters who work in the far off missions spread across the world. This was expressed in the form of a dance taken from different countries.
The programme began with the lighting of the lamp, followed by a welcome speech and a special prayer service which marked the occasion seeking God’s blessings. The other programmes which were put up for the Sisters included a skit entitled, ”The Awakening”, which showcased the misery that people bring upon themselves on their own accord owing to their misdeeds. It also stressed the important e of walking in God’s footsteps.
The CROSS which is the sign of the Holy Cross Sisters, and the Christians alike, is the source of every blessing and the fountain of all merit. The Sisters of the Cross have had the privilege t of being honoured by this sign which symbolizes the exaltation of the Lord and the redemption of humankind from sin and strife. The programme concluded with a befitting mellifluous rendition of the Anthem of the Holy Cross Congregation by the School Choir.
