SEOUL, KOREA - Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors are enjoying solid sales in China, with this year’s market share there likely to be the highest in nine years.The two Korean carmakers sold 1,119,893 units in China during the January-August period of this year, with their combined market share estimated at 10.6 percent.
Beijing Hyundai sold 717,144 units, with a share of 6.8 percent, while DongfengYueda Kia grabbed a share of 3.8 percent by selling 402,749 units.These figures represent the highest market share since 2005 when their combined share stood at 11 percent.
After falling to 6.6 percent in 2007, their market share in China rebounded to 9.8 percent in 2011 and, thereafter, hovered at around 10 percent, standing at 10.5 percent, and 10.4 percent in 2013.
With the beginning of the full-scale sales of K4 and ix25, they expect their combined market share to achieve a nine-year high this year.
In the meantime, Volkswagen achieved the highest market share of 22.6 percent by selling 2,402,374 units during the period, followed by GM with 10.6 percent.
