Korea’s departmentstores and duty-free shops are enjoying special Chinese demand during China’s NationalDay Holiday from October 1 to 7.
During this holidayseason, Korea’s three major department stores—Lotte, Hyundai, and Shinsegae—sawtheir sales to Chinese customers up 60-80 percent year on year.
Lotte Department Store,for example, marked a 6.9-percent growth in overall sales during the first fivedays of this month. However, the sales using China’s UnionPay Card at its mainstore in Sogong-dong in Seoul jumped 87.2 percent during the sameperiod.
Hyundai DepartmentStore also enjoyed an 86.2-percent growth in UnionPay Card-using sales duringthis period. By item, the sales of foreign fashion items rose 94.1 percent,followed by women’s fashion items with 82.6 percent, young fashion with 75.5percent, and foods with 64.8 percent.
Shinsegae DepartmentStore marked a 67.7-percent growth in sales to Chinese customers. The sales ofwomen’s fashion items, cosmetics and contemporary fashion items recordedoutstanding growth rate of 108.3 percent, 66.3 percent and 58.3 percent,respectively.
