Seoul Korea - As part of efforts to strengthen cooperation between industry and academia, SPC Group ran a three-month Paris Croissant interior design class to award scholarships to students.

On December 5, SPC Group, one of S. Korea's largest food manufacturers, held a presentation on Paris Croissant Interior Design Class, an industry-academia cooperation project that SPC Group had kicked off in September in collaboration with Yonsei University and Ringling College of Art and Design (a private art school located in Sarasota, Florida).

In a bid to enhance industry-academia cooperation, SPC Group (whose affiliates include the nation’s leading bakery and pastry brands Paris Baguette and Paris Croissant) carried out a three-month project titled “Virtual Interior Design for Paris Croissant Stores,” in which 22 students from the Interior Architecture & Built Environment Department at Yonsei University and Ringling College of Art and Design participated for a three month period.

During the three-month project, students from both schools worked on joint assignments, overcoming physical distance with the help of video conferencing technology and social networking services. Employees of SPC Group Design Center mentored the students throughout the project, examining progress in each group’s assignment and offering advice.

At the presentation, held via live video conferencing between S. Korea and Florida, the results of the project were presented and heated discussions ensued. The presentation was attended by employees of SPC Group Design Center and faculty members and students of Yonsei University and Ringling College of Art and Design.

SPC Group will award the top three teams with scholarships after final evaluations.

“Ringling College of Art and Design and Yonsei University have been offering an industry-academia cooperation class since last year. Since the class is designed to provide students with on the job training, it has found favor with students. We will continue to scale up our efforts for greater industry-academia cooperation in order to forge mutually reinforcing relations between industry and academia,” said an official from SPC Group.

Ringling College of Art and Design was founded by Ludd M. Spivey back in 1931.
