The Shanghai Motor Show 2015 opened with a press day event on April 20 where a string of strange names appeared. Korea’s major car makers displayed their cutting-edge models under new Chinese brands.
Hyundai Motor unveiled a Chinese version of its new Tucson in the Shanghai Motor Show 2015, first in the world.
The Chinese version of the new Tucson will be marketed under a Chinese name, starting from this September. It will come in two models—2.0 liter and 1.6-liter turbo, each featuring gold painting and wider wheelbase.
Ssangyong Motor showed off its brand-new Tivoli also under a Chinese name, which will be sold from June in China. After releasing a 1.6-liter gasoline model first, Kia Motors will add diesel and four-wheel-drive models.
The Shanghai Motor Show is one of the world’s largest auto shows which is held biannually, alternating with the Beijing International Automotive Exhibition. This year’s exhibition has a display area of 350,000 square meters, larger than the previous exhibition’s 280,000 square meters.
