Dong-A ST announced that its Vice Chairman Kim Won-bae of Donga ST would receive Changjo Medal, Order of Science and Technological Merit at the ceremony of the 48th science day held in Science center, Gwacheon, Gyeonggi-do on April 21st.
In Order of Science and Technological Merit, there are five grades of medals such as Changjo, Hyeoksin, Ungbi, Doyak and Jinbo which are given to those with obvious contribution to the development of science technology. The order came up in 2001 in order to promote science technology.
2015 Changjo Medal was awarded to Vice Chairman Kim Won-bae of Donga ST, who has led various domestic projects as one of the representative CEOs from the research field. He also participated in National Science & Technology Council, Korea Industrial Technology Association, Presidential Committee on Healthcare Industry Innovation and Korea Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association and played an integral role in developing science technology policies. For these activities, he got credit to receive the award.
Vice Chairman Kim Won-bae of Donga ST headed developing Styrene, gastritis medicine; Zydena, Korea’s first impotency drug; Motilitone, functional digestive medicine; Sivextro, antibiotic targeting for super-bacteria. The first three medicines has accounted for increasingly large market shares, which are recognized as the most successful domestic medicines.
In particular, Sivextro, antibiotic targeting for super-bacteria was given approval by FDA in U.S. and EMA in Europe, which became an opportunity for introducing Korea’s ability in research and development of new medicines.
In the meantime, Vice Chairman Kim Won-bae of Donga ST actively undertook to represent more than 190 articles in domestic and foreign journals and register about 40 patents in home and abroad. He got credit for these, receiving the National Medal of Korea (Medal of Seokryu), Prime Minister Award, Award of the Minister of The Ministry of Health and Welfare, Award from Commissioner of Korean Industrial Property Office and Jangyoungsil Award.
“Over 40 years after I joined Dong-A ST, I have been engaged in the pharmaceutical industry. Finally I got credit for my career and received the Changjo Medal, the best honor as a scientist, which makes me thrilled,” said Vice Chairman Kim Won-bae of Donga ST, “I will keep try to let junior scientist put their efforts in research in pursuit of development of Korea’s pharmaceutical industry and science.”
