Korea has the world’s fastest Internet connection speeds, but their growth has been sluggish, Business Insider said Monday, citing a list made by cloud service provider Akamai Technologies.
Korea topped the list with an average speed of 22.2 megabits per second (Mbps), but this was just 1.5 percent higher than last year’s figure.
Hong Kong was second with 16.8Mbps, a 37-percent jump over the same period. Japan was third with 15.2Mbps, up 16 percent. Fourth-place Sweden led all of Europe with 14.6Mbps, up 34 percent, and the remaining six spots were all European countries.
Switzerland was fifth with 14.5 Mbps (up 21 percent), Netherlands sixth with 14.2Mbps (up 15 percent), Latvia seventh with 13Mbps (up 25 percent), Ireland 12.7Mbps (up 24 percent), Czech Republic 12.3Mbps (up 8.4 percent) and Finland 12.1Mbps (up 33 percent).
The U.S. has the most online users of any country with 151 million, but its Internet speeds ranked 17th in the survey.
