The world’s smart TV market is expanding at a rapid pace, with the share of smart TVs in the world’s TV market likely to exceed 40 percent this year and surpass 100 million units next year.
According to market research firm DisplaySearch on May 13, next year’s smart TV sales volume is forecast to reach 105.1 million units, marking the first year to exceed the 100-million mark in annual smart TV sales worldwide.
The size of the world’s smart TV market is expected to reach 97.1 million units this year from 86.8 million units in 2014 and 73.1 million units in 2013.
DisplaySearch predicted that the global smart TV sales volume would exceed the 100-million level in 2016, reaching 111.2 million units in 2017, 118.1 million units in 2018, and 122.6 million units in 2019.
The share of smart TVs in overall TV sales worldwide would rise to 41.2 percent this year from 37.0 percent in 2014 and 32.1 percent in 2013. The share would continue to rise, reaching 43.3 percent in 2016, 45 percent in 2017, 46.3 percent in 2018, and 47.3 percent in 2019.
