Korea’s largest telecom service provider, KT Corp., has joined forces with Taiwan-based Ubitus, Inc., a global leader in cloud gaming services, to offer cloud gaming service and the best “AAA” games on KT IPTV set-top boxes (STB), PR Newswire reported Sunday.
Ubitus CEO Wesley Kuo was quoted as saying, "When Ubitus' technological strengthens and global industry connections in cloud gaming meet with KT's dominant position in the IPTV market of Korea, there will be a new era of cloud gaming in Korea unveiled for gamers of all kinds."
Earlier this year, KT had rolled out its "Wizgame" gaming service on its IPTV STBs, and via stronger cooperation with Ubitus, has bolstered its cloud gaming service business.
Since Thursday, KT has done official firmware upgrades of its STBs to allow millions of users to enjoy the cloud gaming service. Device coverage is predicted to extend to legacy STBs and high-end devices such as STBs for smart web and UHD by this year. By year’s end, premium cloud gaming services will be available to most KT STB users.
