The news service offered by Line, a subsidiary of Korea’s largest portal Naver, is enjoying a rising popularity in Japan, with the number of its users rising by 4.9 million in a single month.
Line strengthened its service by introducing a widget feature that enables users to check the latest news on their smartphones without the need to turn on a news application.
According to Line on June 9, the number of monthly active users for its news service “Line News” passed the 12-million mark in May, up 4.9 million from a month ago. This figure represents the sum of those who have accessed the Line News app and website more than once in a month.
As of May, the number of friends registered on Line News’ official accounts stood at 14.4 million, up 1.88 million from a year ago.
