Samsung Electronics maintained its No. 1 spot in Latin American smartphone market in the first quarter of this year, keeping the top position there for 15 straight quarters in sales volume terms.
Despite strong challenge from Apple and low- and mid-tier smartphone makers, Samsung kept its leading position by diversifying its smartphone models.
According to market research firm Counterpoint Research on June 10, Samsung Electronics gained a share of 29.5 percent in the Latin American smartphone market in the first quarter of this year.
Following Samsung Electronics were LG Electronics with 10.9 percent, Apple with 10.1 percent, Motorola with 8.6 percent, and Alcatel Onetouch with 8.3 percent.
Samsung Electronics has ruled the roost in the Latin American smartphone market for 15 consecutive quarters since the third quarter of 2011.
Counterpoint Research added, “Samsung Electronics saw its Latin American smartphone market share fall by a large margin compared to a year ago but showed improvements compared to a quarter ago.”
