LG Electronics succeeded in the next-generation broadcasting standard technology ATSC (Advanced Television System Committee) 3.0-using experimental broadcasting in the United States.
On July 9, LG Electronics made an open demonstration of the experimental broadcasting using the ATSC 3.0 technology, jointly with Tribune Media and broadcasting equipment firm GatesAir in Cleveland, Ohio.
This is a broadcasting service that simultaneously sends and receives ultra HD broadcasting and high-resolution mobile broadcasting through a single terrestrial broadcasting channel with a bandwidth of 6 MHz.
LG Electronics also demonstrated a new broadcasting technology that allows users to enjoy high-resolution mobile broadcasting services even when moving fast at a speed of 250 kilometers per hour.
ATSC 3.0 can send and receive ultra HD images by leveraging the next-generation image compression technology HEVC (high efficiency video code) and a more effective use of frequencies.
