Hyundai Mipo Dockyard announced on July 17 that it has built the first-ever LEG carrier.
On the same day, the Korean shipbuilder held a christening ceremony for the first time in a series of five LEG carriers ordered en bloc in September 2013 by a Greek owner Eletson.
The LEG carrier was named “Othoni” after a Greek island by a daughter of the shipowner. This ship was built in about 10 months after the steel cutting began in September 2014.
The Othoni features a length of 147.0 meters, a width of 22.6 meters and a depth of 12.6 meters, with three cargo tanks which have a combined capacity of storing 12,000 cubic meters of liquid ethylene gas.
The cargo tank is made of nickel steel materials which can endure very low temperature. The cargo tank has a heat insulation structure to transport liquid cargoes safely even at the temperature of 104 degrees Celsius below zero.
