LG Electronics announced on August 5 that it will release LG Gentle, a clamshell-type smartphone which it released first in the domestic market last month, in the global markets, including Europe and the CIS on a step by step basis.
The LG Gentle is LG Electronics’ third clamshell-type smartphone following the Wine Smart and the Ice Cream Smart. Clamshell-type smartphone is a phone with a physical button but allows users to enjoy mobile messenger applications such as KakaoTalk.
LG Electronics plans to release the LG Gentle in the global market, based on its judgment that the potential demand for this type of smartphones is high in foreign markets, including Europe.
According to market research firm GfK, clamshell-type phones accounted for about 20 percent in Europe’s overall mobile phone sales last year. An LG Electronics official said, “With a differentiating product segment strategy, we will make bigger forays into global market.”
