There is a heated political battle between the ruling and opposition parties over the suicide committed by a nation's top spy agency's employee.
During the meeting of the Security and Public Administration Committee at the National Assembly on Monday, the ruling Saenuri party was focused on the prevention of further suspicion and called for the explanation from the police and fire authorities and not from National Intelligence Service.
Meanwhile, the main opposition party New Politics Alliance for Democracy suspected that the NIS was involved in dealing with the employee’s death.
Lee Erisa, a lawmaker of Saenuri Party said, "(For the explanation of the suspicion), it makes sense from the public perspective. The police should actively deal with the accident and let the public know the truth."
Another ruling party member Yoon Young-suk said, "It is clear that the accident is suicide and I can't understand why the call history of the employee and his family was investigated. That was unnecessary invasion of privacy."
Lee Chul-woo of the same party also said, "I can't understand why some people say the accident was manipulated by the NIS. They are not people capturing spies. They are just ordinary computer experts."
However, lawmakers from the opposition party has different views from the ruling party, calling for clearer explanation from the top spy agency.
"The photo taken by fire authorities which was first discovered in the vehicle of Lim and the photo taken later by the police are different," said Jung Chung-rae, a lawmaker from the NPAD.
He added that, "In the photo taken by fire authorities, his face is not visible but in the shot taken later by the police, his head is turned toward the right," saying that somebody handled the body.
For the firefighter who had phone calls several times with the NIS, Park Nam-choon, a lawmaker of the same party said, "That is the proof that the NIS was involved in dealing with the death."
