ESE CEO Park Kyoung-sik wins presidential award

The more modern the society gets, the more systemic urban management the society demands for greater convenience in urban daily lives and greater safety. Such systemic urban management, of course, do not come at no cost. When systems that control transportation, railways, ports, disasters, etc. are interconnected and managed in an integrated manner, systemic urban management can be made possible.

From such a perspective, Korean solution developer ESE has developed integrated smart control platform “Rino,” the first of its kind in the world. And Rino won the Presidential Award at the 26th Global Software Contest Awards Ceremony, held on November 30 as part of the 16th Software Industry Day.

ESE’s Rino is an integrated smart control platform that enables systemic management of cities, transportation, construction, disasters and ports. Just like smartphones phone users download and install various kinds of apps to their smartphones to use diverse forms of services, users of Rino can install a range of control apps on the Rino platform that comes with the common functions required for the setup of a control center.

“South Korea has thus far made done without an integrated smart control platform that is capable of handing national emergency situations. The mobile phones we carry theses day are smart but the systems we have depended on aren’t so smart,” said ESE CEO Park Kyung-sik.

“Rino is an integrated smart disaster and urban management system. If the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and hospitals had been equipped with our Rino when the MERS outbreak hit the nation, the worst outbreak of a deadly respiratory MERS virus outside the Middle East wouldn’t have taken place in our country. Airtight disease containment would have been possible (if Reno had been in place),” Park added.

Integrated smart control platform 'Rino'

Rino furnishes all the common functions needed for the setup of a control center, from GISs (Geographic Information System), CCTV camera connections, and alarm functions to situation display board controls and real-time monitoring. When specific control apps get onboard, Rino can perform the functions of a more professional control system.

Take crime prevention for example. When Rino is outfitted with apps related to anti-crime CCTV cameras, surveillance cameras, CCTV camera controls, detection of break-ins and security alarms, operators of crime prevention control centers can do their job in an easier, simpler manner.

Take transportation control for example. When smart center platform “Rino” is combined with traffic control apps related to the provision of traffic information, traffic-monitoring CCTV cameras, sudden unexpected event management and parking, control center operators can get down to the business of effectively controlling traffic situations.

Since Rino basically comes with the common functions required for the establishment of a control center and is a buildable platform that can interoperate with diverse control service systems, Rino can easily set up intelligent control centers that take care of all the industrial and urban needs, from transportation, crime prevention, disaster management and energy to ports, airports, firefighting, national defense and water supply facilities.

China and Indonesia are showing an interest in Rino

China’s smart city project, aimed at building U-Cities (or ubiquitous cities) worth 7300 trillion won in 300 cities, is in full swing. ESE is going to take part in China’s smart city project: ESE will supply its Rino solutions to the state-run China Hualu Group which is in charge of building 24 U-Cities in China.

The head of China Hualu Group’s smart city project and CEOs of the group’s 12 affiliates have recently visited the headquarters of ESE to get a firsthand look at how Rino works. China Hualu Group is expected to request ESE to equip the Tianjin urban integrated operation center with the systems that have been applied to Songdo International Business District in Incheon.

On November 12, the chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry visited ESE to see a demonstration of Rino and sounded out the possibility of introducing Rino into Indonesia. Indonesia is devising a plan to set up a Rino-based integrated control system for the management of power plants, apartment buildings and factories in Jakarta.
