Samsung Electronics has left the so-called “Samsung Town” in Seocho-dong, southern Seoul, to move into Samsung’s Headquarters in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province, therefore ending its 8-year stint in Seocho-dong.
“For the next 4 days till March 20, nearly 400 employees belonging to finance, planning, HR divisions will move to Samsung Digital City in Suwon. And they will resume normal operations from March 21,” the S. Korean tech giant said.
Samsung Electronics had previously decided to move its management support divisions to Suwon where its manufacturing base is located, to ensure uninterrupted and speedy communication between production-based and office-based personnel.
In the second half of last year, Samsung’s developers and designers moved in to a new R&D center in Umyeon-dong, Seocho-gu while its PR team relocated to the Samsung Main Building in Taepyung-Ro. Except for them, all the Samsung Electronics employees now punch in and out at Samsung Digital City in Suwon.
In Nov. 2008, the construction of the 390,000-square-meter Samsung Town in Seocho-dong was completed. Samsung Electronics moved out of the Samsung Main Building in Taepyung-Ro, where it had been based for roughly 30 decades, to be domiciled at the Samsung Town in Seocho-dong.
