Samsung C&T held a sod-turning ceremony on April 7 for a 50-megawatt Windsor solar project in Ontario, Canada. Samsung C&T will build a 400-acre solar farm with 193,000 solar panels on airport property that can power the equivalent of 8,500 homes. The project is expected to bring in about $20 million over 20 years for the city.
The 50 megawatt project, a partnership between Samsung Renewable Energy (Samsung C&T's Canadian subsidiary) and Connor, Clark & Lunn Infrastructure, will be funded by a project financing (PE) structure.
The city expects that the project will create about 225 jobs during construction, which is scheduled to be completed in late 2016 or early 2017.
“Samsung is thankful to become part of this supportive community in Windsor and is proud to start construction on our third Ontario solar energy project,” said Steve Cho, vice-president of Samsung C&T. “The Windsor solar project will create hundreds of high-skilled jobs that will benefit real people in this community.”
