The size of the global smartphone OLED display panel market is forecast to double in 2017. According to market research firm IHS, the global smartphone OLED panel shipments are forecast to rise to 366.9 million units this year, up 42.7 percent from last year's 257.1 million.
In particular, such shipments are expected to surge to 455.2 million units next year. Thereafter, the size of the worldwide smartphone OLED panel market is forecast to rise to 558.9 million units in 2018, 663.7 million units in 2019, and 733.6 million units in 2020.
Thus far, Samsung Electronics has been the only smartphone consumer who used OLED panels for smartphones. Other major smartphone makers, including Apple, used LCD panels for its smartphones.
However, as a string of new smartphone makers, including the Chinese smartphone suppliers like Oppo, released OLED-mounted smartphones, the demand for OLEDs is showing an upward trend.
