Sangam-dong, Seoul, Korea has extraordinary stadiums, parks and even an island. First, World Cup Stadium or Sangam Stadium is the home of K-League and FC Seoul. The stadium was open in 2001 and was built for the 2002 FIFA World Cup. Second, there are a multitude of beautiful and wondrous parks such as Millennium Park, Peyeonghwa Park, Noeul Park, Nanjicheon Park, Hangan Citizens' Nanji Park and Sky Park. Sky Park is the highest place within World Cup Park. It shows the wonder and the beautiful scenery such as Mt. Bukhan, Namsan and the Han River. Third, Nanjido the man made mountain which was an island, where the daily trash from Seoul was dumped for 15 years. That is roughly 92 million tons of garbage that made gigantic mountains that measured close to 100 metres high. However, during the early 1990's the government closed the site due mainly of the smell and covered it with soil. As time went by, Mother Nature did her work and transformed it into a wonder. What use to be a dump now is an ecosystem that started to form with plants, flowers blooming and the mountain became a home to many animals. Then in 2001 the park was re-opened as an eco-friendly park.
Now, in 2011 Sangam-dong is getting a new structure to add to the already amazing structures that are there. The government wishes to build an e-sport stadium that will be home to such games as StarCraft and Lineage. Also, it will be housing the International e-Sports Federation office. In addition, the ministry also, is planning to state-fund teams specializing in dance and children's play.
The new structure will cost about 3.4 trillion won or S2.8billion US.The Korean Herald reported, "The increase of the budget shows the government's will to provide a better cultural life to the people, Vice Culture Minister Kim Dae-ki said. We will focus mainly on balancing out the quality of cultural life among different economic classes."
Sangam-dong is becoming the mecca for tremendous achievements by building custom buildings for soccer or making an eco-friendly park. Whatever the case, this will surely not be the last time we hear from Sangam-dong.
