Washington, D.C. November 7, 2016--No Chain (The Association of North Korean Political Victims & Their Families) has started a petition campaign called "Send North Korean Dictator Kim Jong Un to the International Criminal Court (ICC), KJU to ICC" on the White House
'We The People' website to raise awareness regarding the North Korean human rights situation and to generate interest in prosecuting North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un in the International Criminal Court (ICC), as recommended by the United Nations Commission of Inquiry's (UN COI) report on the human rights situation in North Korea. The goal of this petition drive is to generate interest and have 100,000 people sign up, in order to receive an official response from the White House, per the guidelines set forth in the 'We The People' petition website.
"We encourage people to take two minutes to sign this petition on the website, so that we can reach the goal of 100,000 people and elicit an official response from the White House, and, even if that goal is not met, we would really like to encourage people to share and forward the link and post on social media and generate as much interest and news as possible regarding this petition to prosecute Kim Jong Un in the International Criminal Court," said Jung Gwang Il, Founder and Executive Director of No Chain.
"No Chain is aware that North Korea is not a signatory to the ICC, and that only the United Nations Security Council can refer the situation in North Korea for further criminal investigation; it is also important to remember that many have called for the consideration of ICC referral of the North Korean perpetrators of human rights violations, at both the UN Human Rights Council and the UN General Assembly.
Though some have called into question this petition drive, our ultimate goal and aim is to generate awareness and interest in this matter, and news of this petition drive on the 'We The People' website and how the White House will give an official response to this and any other petition put up by citizens, will be sent into North Korea to show the North Korean citizens that the dictator Kim Jong Un is not above the law and that the international community is aware of the brutal human rights violations carried out under his tyranny," said Jung.
No Chain also urges people to sign the petition drive being led by UN Watch to send Kim Jong Un to the ICC.
