Barun Electronics Co. is a semiconductor enterprise that was established in 1998 and currently produces flash memory cards and DRAM semiconductors and provides solutions for ASIC and ASSP.
For KDC, this is a move to enhance the quality and technology of their future 3D products by giving their affiliated company iStation an opportunity to create a synergy with the newly obtained Barun Electronics Co. It is also a move to prepare for the next generation 3D market. KDC is a 3D enterprise that manufactures technology and products for 3D phones, 3D-PMP's, 3D electronic frames. However, through this new obtainment, they hope to expand the areas of 3D broadcasting, 3D mobile, and 3D content.
A company representative stated, "Currently, the world's total demand for digital televisions is at about 106 million and almost 2.1 billion for cell phones. These markets allow the 3D equipment market to be hundreds maybe thousands time bigger." KDC's chairman Kim Tae-sup stated, "To occupy the next generation 3D market, the possession of semiconductor technology and other related products are essential. This current M&A agreement that was reached was for us to produce cutting-edge 3D display equipment such as 3D cameras, 3D contents, and 3D storage equipment as well as to assure us to continue to be pioneers of the 3D industry."
