‘AI-based technology attainment’, ‘Tech-orientated innovation’… the company sets their sights on enhancing their core capacities.
On the 15th, NCSOFT (CEO: Taek-Jin Kim) held ‘NC AI Media Talks’ at the company’s Pangyo R&D centre and introduced their AI R&D progress and vision.
The company announced their research activities and progress made since 2011, along with their vision to concentrate the company’s core capacities on five critical technologies in AI development.
The company’s strategy is to bring about innovations in the IT sector by introducing AI technologies. Currently, the company is using their two research entities, their AI centre and NLP (Natural Language Processing Centre), as their axis of AI development.
The two research centres are under direct control of Taek-Jin Kim. There are five separate sub-laboratories: AI centre’s Game AI Lab, Speech Lab, and Vision TF. The NLP Centre Language consists of the AI Lab and Knowledge Lab. About 100 research staff members workin the laboratories and centres.
NC has pledged to share their research progress, both internally and externally, disseminating it to academia. On the 22nd and 23rd of February, the company hosted ‘NCSOFT AI DAY 2018’, where they presented their R&D results to 200 academics and research students, who are affiliated with industry experts, and to the company’s staff members.
Taek-Jin Kim noted, “Just as the programming-based digital era replaced the analogue period, the trend is now shifting towards the ‘learning’ era, where AI learns the data. NC is committed to preparing for the shift by steadfastly investing in AI technology.”
