Samsung SDS has invested in Bitfusion, a US GPU virtualization technology company, through Samsung venture investment.
Bitfusion has technologies to efficiently manage the GPU (Graphic Processing Unit) resources required for high-performance computing such as artificial intelligence service, autonomous driving, and big data analysis.
GPU can rapidly process large amount of data quickly compared to CPU (Central Processing Unit), which is a serial processing method, such as AI and real-time analysis of Big data. Demands for GPU have seen a rapid increase.
By applying BitFusion technology to cloud services, Samsung SDS can enhance its cloud business competitiveness by increasing GPU performance by 2 to 4 times and by reducing costs by up to 50 percent.
Samsung SDS has strategic partnerships with global cloud service providers such as Amazon, MS, and Oracle, and is working with leading Cloud service businesses such as Butu Stream and Spotinst to secure cutting-edge technologies and focus on Cloud businesses.
“This investment has enabled us to improve the competitiveness of Samsung SDS cloud business by applying different technologies of BitFusion,” said Kim Ho, Vice President of cloud business division at Samsung SDS.
