Recently, Daewoo Electronics, which was acquired by Dayou Group, has been under controversial ‘Gapjil’ over its partner companies. According to ‘ChosunIlbo’ on the 8th, Daewoo Electronics notified its suppliers to supply core parts without prior consultation.

For this reason, the partner company that lost the source of supply, and more than 100 of its secondary and tertiary subcontractors are protesting, saying that “they are in danger of going bankrupt”.In response, Daewoo Electronics said, “We had no choice but to do so because we had problems with quality of parts supplied.”

According to Chosun.com, Daewoo Electronics sent an official notice to Daewoo Compressors, which supplies compressors for refrigerators. Daewoo Compressors was originally Daewoo Electronics’ compressor business, but it was sold in 2015 after dispensing it.

At that time, Daewoo Electronics signed a contract to purchase 1 million compressors per year by 2020 and pay a penalty fee of 5 percent of the average unit price for underpriced parts. In reality, however, only 300,000 units were purchased annually, and the rest of them were charged a penalty.

“With the suspension of the supply, the plant operation rate dropped to 60 percent and took up 2.79 million dollars’ worth of inventory, creating a management crisis,” said Daewoo Compressors. It is said that many of the 100 secondary and tertiary subcontractors of this company either stopped operating their plants or decreased operation rates.

On the other hand, Daewoo Electronics said, “It is a quality problem, but Daewoo Compressors are misleading. There are still more than 35,000 compressor parts piled up in factories in Mexico. For Daewoo Electronics, which accounts for 80 percent of exports, quality defects cannot be conceded.”

In response, Daewoo Compressors said, “There was no indication, but suddenly we were surprised to find out about the defective products. We went to Mexico and checked the defects, but found that it was a problem with the parts, not the compressor itself, so we decided to replace all the parts.”
