Lee Jeong-mi, a lawmaker of the Justice Party, said on Sept. 17 that she will apply to the parliamentary audit next month for key witnesses such as Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong and Committee Chairman Lee Sang-hoon.
A carbon dioxide leak at Samsung Electronics' Giheung plant caused two deaths and one unconscious on Sept. 4. According to Rep. Lee, there have been about 190 industrial accidents at Samsung Electronics since 2014 and four major disasters.
Rep. Lee plans to check the prevention measures against Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Lee, who is in charge of management, as Samsung Electronics is reducing and concealing the same types of accidents, despite repeated accidents of the same type.
Rep. Lee said, "We want to clarify the responsibility of Lee Sang-hoon, chairman of the Samsung Electronics committee who directed and supervised the group to implement the non-labor union management, and confirm measures to prevent a recurrence."
Rep. Lee also plans to apply for SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won, Aekyung Group Chairman Chang Young-shin, Daewoo Engineering and Construction CEO Kim Hyung and President Lee Kang-rae of Korea Highway Corporation as key witnesses.
