The Fair Trade Commission (FTC) is investigating allegations that Dolby, a global company that has sound standard technologies, has demanded unfair royalties to partner companies.
FTC Chairman Kim Sang-jo answered at the National Assembly`s parliamentary inspection on Oct. 15, "We have already conducted field investigations according to the civil complaints raised by related officials."
Rep. Kim Yong-tae of the Liberty Korea Party pointed out, "Dolbi has demanded that its business partners pay royalties even for technologies developed by themselves because they use Dolby's technology."
Meanwhile, Chairman Kim said, "We examined only the details of the contract during the 2015 Dolby investigation, but this time we conducted a field investigation on the areas where it received patent fees and penalty fees."
He added, "We will support the restoration of the plaintiff in a civil lawsuit through thorough investigation."
