Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) made an export contract worth 100 billion won with Indonesia on Nov. 8. KAI CEO Kim Jo-won and the administrator of the Indonesian Defense Ministry's facility acquisition bureau had a signing ceremony at the JI Expo in Jakarta, where the "INDO Defense 2018" defense industry exhibition was held.
KAI inked the contract to export three KT-1B trainer aircraft and install radar equipment and guns on the Indonesian Air Force's T-50i planes. KAI is to deliver the KT-1Bs within 28 months of the contract's implementation, and it will complete the T-50i project within 25 months.
KT-1B is an export-type aircraft for Indonesia of KT-1, the basic trainer of the Korean Air Force. The export came in fourth after three times from 2001 to 2008. In addition to the basic trainer jet, the Indonesian Air Force is also operating KT-1 as a "Jupiter" air show team.
The Indonesian air force will be equipped with the light attack aircraft function by introducing a T-50i radar and a rifle this time. The T-50i is an export-type aircraft for Indonesia of the T-50 trainer jet, and the Indonesian Air Force signed a contract to purchase 16 units in 2011.
KAI is currently seeking to export 24 Korean-type mobile helicopters and 16 light attack aircraft to Indonesia Air Force.
"We will contribute to modernizing the military by providing complete follow-up assistance of KT-1B and T-50i to the Indonesian air force," CEO Kim said.
