The Rural Development Administration (RDA) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Development of the Kyrgyz Republic on June 2 to cooperate with the Korea Program for International Cooperation in Agricultural Technology (KOPIA).
Officials from both sides attended the MOU signing ceremony held at the main office of the RDA, including Kim Kyeong-kyu, administrator of the RDA, and Ambassador Dinara Kemelova of Kyrgyz Republic to South Korea.
The RDA conducted a local feasibility study for the KOPIA project in the Republic of Kyrgyzstan in 2017 and will open the KOPIA Kyrgyzstan Center in the second half of this year with the signing of the MOU.
The two sides will strengthen cooperation in the agricultural technology sector. The RDA plans to transfer Korea's advanced agricultural technology to the Republic of Kyrgyzstan, especially with projects needed in the republic, such as organic projects, the establishment of a seed potato production system, and the artificial fertilization of livestock.
"We are pleased to be able to expand agricultural technology cooperation between the two institutions through the KOPIA project," said Amb. Dinara Kemelova. "We look forward to contributing to the development of agriculture in the Republic of Kyrgyzstan through close cooperation in the future."
Meanwhile, RDA Administrator Kim said, "We will actively discover and support customized development cooperation projects that can contribute to the agricultural development of the Kyrgyz Republic. We ask for the republic’s active support and attention for the KOPIA Kyrgyzstan center project in the future."
