SPC Group said on June 14 that its bakery brand "Paris Baguette" will expand its market in North America by entering Canada.
SPC Group recently established its local subsidiary Paris Baguette Family Canada Licensing, Inc. in Canada, and plans to open its first stores in major cities such as Toronto and Vancouver as early as the first half of next year.
SPC Group had earlier presented a blueprint for expanding its global business, which includes China, the United States, Singapore and France as its four major hubs.
The entry into Canada is the first in 16 years since Paris Baguette took its first step in the U.S., a North American stronghold, in 2005, which is interpreted as a sign of full-fledged regional expansion.
Since its entry into the U.S., Paris Baguette has expanded its business around eastern New York and western Los Angeles, opening 15 stores in Manhattan alone, the center of the U.S. economy, and operating 83 stores in the U.S., including San Francisco and Boston.
Paris Baguette successfully settled in the market by competing with local and global bakery brands based on high-quality products, a variety of products that are several times more than local bakeries, interior design and convenience.
Paris Baguette plans to actively expand its franchise business from the beginning of its entry into Canada based on the business know-how it has accumulated through its U.S. business. Through this, the company aims to open more than 100 stores in Canada by 2030.
"Canada is not only an expansion of the U.S. cultural market, but also Quebec is a strategically important market for Paris Baguette's global business as it can be seen as a pan-French cultural region," an SPC Group official said. "Based on our successful experience in running stores in the U.S. and France, we will make it a beloved brand in the Canadian market."
Meanwhile, SPC Group has now entered five countries - France, the United States, China, Singapore and Vietnam - and operates some 400 Paris Baguette stores. In March, it completed construction of a production plant in Tianjin, China. In September, it joined hands with a local company to establish a joint venture in Cambodia.
