Hyundai AutoEver made an announcement on June 18 that it has developed 'HAE-WBC', a security solution based on white box encryption technology, to counter various cyber security threats.

Hyundai AutoEver has developed 'HAE-WBC' that protects encryption keys only with software unlike existing hardware-based security technologies with the aim of strengthening security of Smart X (Mobility, City, Factory) services. This is applicable to all environments that use cryptographic algorithms without separate storage.

It is expected that HAE-WBC will be lightweight so that it can be loaded in low specification environments without difficulty and will be used inside vehicles in the future.

Its advantage is that data encryption speed is about 25 times faster than commercial products.

HAE-WBC has designed cryptographic keys to be mixed into cryptographic algorithms so that attackers cannot easily recover them, and has implemented them as dual safeguards to enhance security.

It is characterized by obfuscating encryption modules so that key recovery is impossible even if modules are released. In order to prevent the use of software piracy, Node Locked technology is applied to provide greater security.

Hyundai AutoEver is planning to introduce HAE-WBC into digital home keys this year and receive digital keys through mobile apps to help secure control of IoT home appliances such as door locks, lighting and heating.

"We are going to speed up development of IoT devices and vehicle embedded security technologies by forming a specialized research organization such as vehicle security technology team and vehicle convergence SW lab," said a representative for Hyundai AutoEver. "We are planning to secure core technologies in the security area by strengthening research on vehicle security solutions, encryption technologies, and digital key and certification platforms."
