Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction has signed a 360 billion won ($297 million) contract to build Gimpo Combined Heat & Power Plant in Gimpo.

Doosan Heavy supplies large-scale gas turbines for power generation that Doosan develops independently for the fifth in the world and succeeded in localizing it.

Doosan Heavy said on June 22 that it has signed contracts with Korea Western Power Co. for power block and construction of the Gimpo Combined Heat & Power Plant. The total amount of orders is about 360 billion won. The new order follows the signing of a contract with Korea Western Power Co. to supply gas turbines for the plant in December last year.

Power block is a facility that produces electricity with turbines and generators. Doosan Heavy's contract for the power block sector is worth about 230 billion won, and Doosan supplies and installs steam turbines, generators, and HRSG that go into the power block.

The amount of orders won for the power plant construction sector, which will install power lines and industrial water facilities, is about 130 billion won.

The Gimpo Combined Heat & Power Plant will be built in Yangchon-eup, Gimpo, Gyeonggi Province, and will be completed in the first half of 2023.

The 500MW power plant, which uses LNG as a heat source, will supply power and heat to nearby areas.

The country's first gas turbine independent model, which Doosan Heavy launched as a national project in 2013 and completed its final assembly in September last year, will be applied to the plant.

"According to the recently announced briefing on the 9th basic plan for electricity supply and demand, the domestic natural gas generation market is expected to expand from 41.3 GW in 2020 to 60.6 GW in 2034. We will make efforts to develop the best-performing Korean standard gas combined power generation model based on industry-academic cooperation," said Park Hong-wook, head of Power Service BG at Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction.
