Woori Financial Group announced on June 23 that it delivered 100 million won ($82,600) in scholarships to the Korea War Memorial Foundation through the "70th Anniversary of the June 25 War Project Promotion Committee" at the headquarters of Woori Financial Group in Jung-gu, Seoul on June 22 to mark the 70th anniversary of the war.
The ceremony was attended by Son Tae-seung, chairman of Woori Financial Group, Kim Eun-ki, co-chairman of the 70th anniversary of the Korean War Project Promotion Committee, and college students who are direct descendants of UN veterans and studying in Korea.
The aid was designed to repay the appreciation for U.N. Korean war veterans with the educational support for their descendants. The scholarship will be delivered to 20 college students studying in South Korea and 120 elementary, middle and high school students from six countries whose ancestors participated in the war.
"Woori Financial Group should express its gratitude to the UN veterans for their dedication to the freedom and peace of the strange country, the Republic of Korea, and now repay their gratitude to their descendants," Chairman Son said.
