South Korea President Moon Jae-in

Marking the first year since Japan’s unfair export regulations on major Korean products, President Moon Jae-in said on July 9 that Korea will go a different way from Japan in the materials, parts and equipment industry.

President Moon visited SK Hynix in Icheon, Gyeonggi Province, earlier in the day and said, "Japan's unfair export regulations have continued for a year. We will take a 'different path' from Japan."

President Moon's visit was arranged to share with the public the achievements of a year after the Japanese export regulations, and to pledge the nation’s leap to become a powerhouse in the material, parts and equipment industries and a world factory in high-tech industries.

President Moon said, "We have become an example of the world by succeeding in efficient disinfection without choosing 'the road to blockade' like other countries in the COVID-19 crisis. Just as K-quarantine has become the world's standard, we should be able to lead the world in the material, parts and equipment industries."

In particular, President Moon said, "We will take a 'different path' from Japan. Korea will take advantage of the crisis as an opportunity to become a 'global high-tech material, parts and equipment power.'"

President Moon mentioned three things related to the "Materials, Parts and Equipment 2.0 Strategy," which contains the goal.

First, he said that Korea would become a "global material, parts, and equipment industry powerhouse" and suggested expanding 100 key management items that had been targeted at Japan to 338 worldwide, fostering 100 'leading small business managers' as top global market companies, establishing 'digital supply chain' and 'smart logistics system' and reducing cost time by more than 70% with 'material innovation AI platform'.

Secondly, President Moon said that Korea would become a "world factory for high-tech industries" by attracting high-tech industries and making U-turns, and that the country would focus on new industries such as semiconductors, bio, future cars, hydrogen and secondary batteries to attract high-tech industries and promote domestic U-turns around high-profile items such as electronics, automobiles and fashion.

President Moon said he would strengthen cooperation with the international community to stabilize the third global supply chain.

He added, "We have realized the importance of international division of labor based on trust through Japan's unfair export regulations. We have a strong manufacturing base, a global ICT innovation infrastructure, a business-friendly investment environment, and above all, we have proved to be the safest investment destination in the world through the success of Corona quarantine."
