LG Electronics launched an "Innovation Counseling Office" and held its first meeting on July 14. LG Electronics plans to strengthen "open innovation" by listening to the world's top experts' groups on whether its future new technologies such as artificial intelligence, robots, and autonomous driving are behind the global trend or whether there are any improvements.
The counseling office was created to hear from global experts whether R&D innovation based on LG Electronics' vision for "digital transformation" is being carried out properly, an LG official said.
To prepare for the rapidly changing market environment, the company plans to explore future technologies and new business opportunities by accepting various perspectives and insights from the perspective of "open innovation."
LG Electronics held its first innovation conference on the same day and discussed future technology trends and industrial trends with its members.
The meeting was held as a non-face-to-face online video conference in consideration of the difficulty of moving between countries due to the spread of COVID-19. Also present at the meeting were Andrew Ng, a world-renowned authority on artificial intelligence, and Prof. Cha Sang-kyun, dean of the Graduate School of Data Science at Seoul National University.
At the first conference, LG Electronics CEO Park Il-pyung shared a vision of digital transformation that LG Electronics is expanding its business portfolio to new services and solutions based on differentiated software technologies such as artificial intelligence.
Under the theme of "The Direction of Changes in Each Industry in the Post-Corona Era," invited speakers and experts in mobility and robotics each gave presentations, while members of the council discussed freely.
The members shared cases of success by flexibly responding to the global economic recession caused by COVID-19. They also discussed future technologies and new businesses such as home IoT, robotics and mobility that reflect customers' changed lifestyles in the New Normal era.
"We need systematic networking with global experts in various fields to respond to rapidly changing customers, markets and technologies," said CEO Park, adding, "We will seek ways to strengthen our future technology capabilities and competitiveness of new businesses based on digital transformation."
