KT made an announcement on July 15 that it will sign a contract with Migu, a subsidiary of China Mobile, to sell 5G contents and export live 5G-based K-content services to China and Hong Kong in earnest.
The 5G content exported this time is "KT Live Stage," a live K-pop music broadcast centered on new Korean idols hoping to enter the global market.
KT is the first Korean company to officially export K-content through China Mobile, which is expected to be a significant step toward global expansion of 5G-based K-content.
To that end, KT first signed an MOU with Migu last year for cooperation in 5G-based new media contents. In December, the world's first K-pop idol debut stage "KT Live Stage" was broadcast live in high-definition at the same time based on the 5G network.
Since then, KT has successfully provided a total of seven simultaneous "KT Live Stage" and replay high-definition VOD services every month through Seezn in Korea and through China Mobile Migu's platform in Hong Kong.
Taiwan's news agency FET(Far EasTone) also showed great interest in K-pop content, which is broadcast live in high-definition, and also provided its users with a free live service of "KT Live Stage."
KT plans to continue to expand live broadcasting services to Asian countries interested in K-pop content. In addition, the company plans to allow Korean users to enjoy more diverse global sports content at Seezn, including the provision of content from the Chinese professional volleyball Super League CVL, which was temporarily suspended due to COVID-19.
"The successful sale of K-content with China Mobile Migu is the result of KT's continuous introduction of high-definition live broadcasting services at home and abroad in order to make inroads into the global market for 5G contents," said Kim Hoon-bae, executive director of KT's customer new business division.
