In the first half of this year, Samsung Electronics secured a 31.3 share in the global TV market despite the impact of the new coronavirus infection (COVID-19) and achieved an overwhelming first place.
According to global market research firm Omdia on Aug. 19, Samsung Electronics ranked first in the global TV market in the first half of this year by securing a 31.3 percent share in terms of sales.
The figure is up 1.3 percent year-on-year, with sales of $12.428 billion. Its quarterly sales share is 32.4 percent in the first quarter and 30 percent in the second quarter.
Samsung Electronics shipped 19.07 million TVs in the first half of this year, and its market share was 20.7 percent. Compared to the same period last year (19.02 million units), it increased slightly.
It is analyzed that this is the result of increasing sales of QLED (Quantum Dot Light Emitting Diode) TVs in premium markets that cost more than $2,500 (about 2.95 million won).
In particular, sales slowed down in the second quarter due to the closure of home appliance distribution stores in major countries such as the U.S. and Europe from March to May, but the overall market share in the first half of the year was higher than last year's 30 percent.
In the first half of this year, the global TV market sold a total of 91.872 million units, while sales amounted to 39.75 billion dollars, down 7.7 percent and 17.8 percent, respectively, from a year earlier.
However, Samsung Electronics sold 190.72 million units in the first half of this year, up from 190.23 million units a year earlier, and its market share also rose from 19 percent to 20.7 percent during the same period.
