Citibank Korea (CEO Ha Yung-Ku, www.citibank.co.kr) and YWCA Korea (Chairwoman Kang Kyo-Ja, www.ywca.or.kr) named the winners of the "9th Korea Women Leaders Award," that was established in 2003. The award ceremony was held at 2pm 20th fl. International Conference Room, Korea Press Center on Thu. September 8, 2011

The winner of the 9th Women's Leadership Award went to Emeritus Professor Joo Sun-Ae of Presbyterian College and Theological Seminary, who is the first-ever Korean professor majoring in Christianity Education. She is regarded as the godmother of the North Korean defectors for contributing to the enhancement of their human rights and helping their settlement in South Korea. As a scholar as well as a social activist Professor Joo opened a community center for the North Korean refugees in 2006. She is a woman leader who always reaches out to underprivileged people and practice love. Even at the age of over 80, she stays in the same place with defectors, leading a humble and modest life.

Kim Moon-Jeong is a young music director who orchestrated varied musical works - from licensed musicals such as Mamma Mia and Miss Saigon to creative musicals such as Seopyonje, the Last Empress, the Harmonium in My Memory, and Gwanghwamun Love Song. Director Kim is excellent in eliciting communication and interaction between actors and audience with her diverse experience in music. She was named the young leader award winner as she is expected to serve as a role model for the younger generations who aspire to make their dream come true.

Choi Young-Ah is a physician whose medical volunteering started from her college days. She continued to provide medical support to the underprivileged people including homeless for the past decade working at Dail Angel Hospital and Yeongdeungpo Joseph Clinic. She is currently devoted to taking care of homeless patients as Director of Dasiseogi Clinic. Her practice of respect for marginalized people contributing to the social integration was highly recognized.

YWCA Korea and Citibank Korea founded the Korea Women's Leadership Awards in 2003 to annually acknowledge a woman leader who has made contributions to our society and demonstrated exceptional leadership along with a young female leader aged below 50 whose leadership is prominent and innovative. In addition, this renowned award also started to choose a woman who has led diversity initiatives to contribute to the integration of our society.

The winners of the award so far are: Park Dong-Eun, UNICEF Korea Director General; Jeong Gwang-Mo, President of Consumers Union of Korea; Chang Myung-Soo, former President of Hankookilbo Newspaper; Yoon Jung-Ok, Co-Head of Korean Council for the Women drafted for military sexual slavery by Japan; Minister Cho Hwa-Soon of Dalwol Church; Lee In-Bok, Manager of Nazareth Sacred Home; Whang Youn-Dai, former president of Korea Disabled Peoples' Development Institute and Park Young-Sook, Advisor to the Korea Foundation for Women

Young Leader Winners include: Kim Ki-Hye, Head of Susunhwa house; Han Bi-Ya, World Vision Emergency Relief Team Leader; Kim Sung-Joo, CEO of Sungjoo International; Kim Young-Mi, freelance producer; Bang Gui-Hee Sotdae Literature publisher; Lee So-Yeon, Korea's first astronaut; Lim O-Kyeong, Coach of Seoul City Hall Women Handball Team; and Lee Ji-Sun, author of "Ji-Sun, I love you."

The first Special Prize winner in 2009 was Molly Holt, head of Holt Children's Services followed by Kathleen Stevens, U.S. Ambassador to Korea last year. Source: Citibank Korea Inc.
