SEOUL, KOREA — SK Telecom (NYSE:SKM) today celebrated the first and second customer for the world's first high-quality nationwide VoLTE service named ‘HD Voice’ at its store located in Yeoksam-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul.
Kwang-soo Kim(age 35) and Ok-jung Hong(age 23) became the first and second buyer of HD Voice-compatible Galaxy S3 LTE today and began experiencing HD Voice over SK Telecom’s nationwide LTE network from 1.P.M. Hong said, “The minute I purchased the phone, I tried out the VoLTE service and was impressed with its superior call quality and call connection time.”
Sun-jung Kim, Senior Vice President and Head of Seoul Metropolitan Marketing Office of SK Telecom said, “As the world’s leading LTE service provider, SK Telecom has brought voice call quality to another level by commercializing HD Voice, the world’s first nationwide VoLTE service. HD Voice supported by SK Telecom’s LTE network covering 99 percent of the population will offer greater convenience and deliver true value for customers.”
The company began selling HD Voice-capable Galaxy S3 LTE devices today and will offer firmware upgrades for existing users of Galaxy S3 LTE within this month. In addition SK Telecom plans to embed HD Voice as a basic feature in most of its LTE smartphones to be released in the future.
